Floren Van de Velde - President

Hi!

I’m Floren, 21 years old and mechanical engineering student in aero and space at the KU Leuven. For years I have been passionate about innovation in business environments, I have completed several entrepreneurial courses, projects and competitions. Last year it all led to becoming project manager at another student organization, coordinating 12 consulting projects for 11 different companies, an internship platform for startups and a startup entrepreneurship project with Cronos Leuven. I had a team of 8 fellow students and without having any real management experience from before I had my struggles. It’s not always easy to delegate in the most efficient way, to manage your time or to keep the whole crew motivated. It takes not only practice, but mostly it’s all about understanding your team. What drives them? What are their personal goals? What are their frustrations? There are many managers out there who don’t get their job, who don’t listen or understand their teams. Also, classical hierarchical structures are changing by the minute. With all this innovation going on, we felt as BLASE that it was our duty to raise awareness and educate our fellow students (and ourselves) about effective management.
